Must concurrently enroll in SOCW 574. Enrollment in SOCW 574 is dependent on student’s current professional experience. For more details, email the instructor.

Description: The course considers historical, theoretical, legal, policy, and practice issues relevant to the practice of social work in urban schools. Its purpose is to develop the competencies and practice behaviors necessary for successful and competent, evidence informed practice with students, teachers, families, schools, and communities. This course utilizes an ecological systems framework and strengths perspective for the development of competence in school social work practice. Special attention is given to practice issues in urban settings and practice with diverse children, including children affected by poverty, gender issues, disability, sexual orientation and/or racial or ethnic minority status. Current issues in school social work are addressed.
