Kristin Rennels is an advocate and leader in the nonprofit sector with over a decade of experience in fundraising, grant writing, Board management, and event planning. Kristin is currently an independent consultant helping nonprofit organizations reach their fundraising goals through innovative, customized solutions. She works with national, regional, and local nonprofits to provide leadership, strategy, and support in all aspects of their fundraising efforts.
Previously, Kristin served as the Director of Development, Growth, and Strategic Partnerships for the National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA), a nonprofit organization committed to improving quality educational opportunities for children. At NACSA, Kristin led the development and implementation of the organization’s national fundraising strategy focused on expanding NACSA’s visibility, impact, and financial resources.
Prior to joining NACSA, Kristin was the Manager of Development and Communications at The Chicago Public Education Fund, where she led the organization’s fundraising and communications efforts. In her role there, she managed a $16-million fundraising campaign to further the organization’s mission to provide all children in Chicago with a world-class education.
Kristin joined The Fund after two years in graduate school, where she conducted research on education reform and advocacy, with a focus on Chicago Public Schools. Her final graduate research project examined the impact of charter schools on public education in Chicago by looking at the performance outcomes of students at both traditional and charter high schools.
Prior to graduate school, Kristin worked at University of Arizona Foundation as a member of the development and donor services team. As the Assistant Director of Scholarship Stewardship, she focused on building and maintaining relationships with individual donors, community organizations and foundations interested in supporting student scholarships.
Kristin earned a master’s degree in Public Service from DePaul University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ball State University in Indiana. She lives in Chicago and enjoys spending her time travelling, watching the Cubs and Blackhawks, and visiting her family in Indiana.
