Jim Erickson

Jim Erickson has 25 years of experience working for AT&T/Lucent Technologies in the development of telecommunications systems and software including the 4ESS TM /5ESS TM switches, ADSL, and VoIP switching products as a Member of Technical Staff, Technical Manager, and Director.

From 1990 to 2001, Jim held key project and program management positions at Lucent in the development of new products and systems. He was the Technical Manager of the Development Project Management group for the 1B Processor Project which won the 1996 Project Management Institute Project of the Year award.

He has successfully managed projects ranging from a few staff years of effort to several hundred staff years of effort and has worked with project teams distributed across multiple global locations. Before retiring from Lucent Technologies in 2001, he was Director of the Packet Solutions Release Management Department where he had overall program management responsibilities for the development of a new voice over packet data product line.

Jim teaches or has taught courses related to Project Management, Operations Management, and Information Technology at various academic institutions in the Chicago area. He has also delivered Project Management training to corporate clients. Currently, he is a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Jim has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, an MS in Computer Science from the University of California - Berkeley, an MBA from Northern Illinois University, and an MS in Management Information Systems from University of Illinois - Chicago. He is a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
